It was announced Friday that Indians Outfielder Abraham Almonte has been suspended for 80 games for violation of MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
MLB said Friday that Almonte tested positive for Boldenone, a steroid generally used by veterinarians on horses.
The Indians already had a questionable outfield situation coming into the season with Michael Brantley injured, and this news may explain why the Tribe signed Will Venable to a Minor-League deal earlier on Friday.
Almonte will be able to play in Spring Training, but will not be allowed to play in regular season games until July.
