Detroit: The Indians on Tuesday placed outfielder Austin Jackson on the 10-day disabled list and recalled relief pitcher Shawn Armstrong from Triple-A Columbus.
Jackson came up limping after beating out an infield single in the ninth inning of Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. As he came down on the bag with his left foot, Jackson hyperextended his big toe. Jackson was seen working out with a trainer prior to Tuesday’s game, trying to test how well he could run and plant with the foot.
The Indians were relieved that it wasn’t anything directly related to his left knee, which was surgically repaired last season.
