Indians notebook: Michael Brantley relishes family support during rehab; bill honoring Larry Doby introduced

ARLINGTON, Texas: Indians left fielder Michael Brantley’s attempt to return to the No. 3 spot in the lineup was a treacherous one.

After two major surgeries and a third procedure to clean out scar tissue since Nov. 2015, Brantley’s rehab was marred with setbacks, delays and frustration as much as anything.

Roughly 11 months after seeing any major league action, Brantley’s name was penciled into the Indians’ Opening Day lineup against the Texas Rangers on Monday night.

No one knows if Brantley’s shoulder will hold up over an extended period or time, or how often he’ll be able to appear in the starting lineup.
