CLEVELAND: The Indians on Saturday placed utility man Mike Aviles back on Major League Baseball’s Family Medical Emergency List and recalled shortstop Jose Ramirez from Triple-A.
Aviles was put on the Family Medical Emergency List on May 8 after learning that his 4-year-old daughter, Adriana, had been diagnosed with leukemia. He spent a week on that list and was then put on the Restricted List for three more days.
Aviles is again tending to his daughter, who is at the Cleveland Clinic.
A player can remain on the Family Medical Emergency List for seven days, though the Indians just need to cover the next few days until the All-Star break.
