CLEVELAND (AP) -- Right-hander Shaun Marcum has been designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians.
Marcum allowed six runs and six hits in two innings during Wednesday's 17-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The short outing forced Indians manager Terry Francona to use six relief pitchers, including outfielders Ryan Raburn and David Murphy in the ninth inning.
Marcum, who has a $1 million salary, was 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA in seven appearances; he held Seattle to two hits in seven shutout innings on June 11.
Cleveland recalled left-hander Kyle Crockett from Columbus on Thursday and selected the contract of right-hander Jeff Manship from the Triple-A club.
