CLEVELAND – The Indians made a waiver claim on Wednesday, as they brought back to the team utility man Michael Martinez. He was claimed on outright waivers from the Red Sox.
Martinez returns to the Indians organization after spending much of the first half in Cleveland, hitting .283 (17-60) with 3 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI and 10 runs scored in 32 games while logging time at five different positions.
He was designated for assignment by Cleveland on July 2 and traded to the Red Sox on July 8. He appeared in 4 games for the Red Sox (1-for-6, RS) and was designated for assignment on August 2 following the trading deadline.
