The Indians on Wednesday promoted pitcher Shaun Marcum and optioned down infielder Zach Walters to Triple-A Columbus.
Marcum, 33, is slated to pitch Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox. In Triple-A this season, he has a 4-0 record and 1.36 ERA in five starts. Wednesday night will mark his first major-league start since July 6, 2013 with the New York Mets.
Walters was expendable once Mike Aviles returned to the team. He went 1-for-17 with eight strikeouts in seven games for the Indians.
