The Indians on Tuesday activated second baseman Jason Kipnis from the 15-day disabled list after a bout of right shoulder inflammation that sidelined him on Aug. 2. Kipnis replaces infielder Chris Johnson, who was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Saturday, with an infection in his left hand, believed to be the result of a spider bite.
Kipnis leads the American League in batting average (.326) and on-base percentage (.401). The five-year veteran has 31 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 39 RBIs in 101 games this season.
