CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Plain Dealer's Mark Dawidziak writes that Ken Burns' documentary about Jackie Robinson is a genuine labor of love. "The warmly crafted two-part, four-hour PBS documentary (starts tonight at 9 on PBS) positively glows with its admiration for the man and his accomplishments."
Well, let's not forget that Cleveland sports fans positively glow at the memory of another black baseball hero, our own Larry Doby, the second black athlete to play Major League Baseball. Doby signed to play with the Indians in 1947, just three months after Robinson had broken the color line with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
