CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Michael Martinez is like a boomerang.
The Indians keep tossing him to other teams, but he always seems to find his way back. The club signed the veteran utility player to a minor-league deal on Sunday. He reported to Triple-A Columbus.
Martinez opened the season with the Tribe, but the club designated him for assignment and traded him to the Rays last month. Ah, but with Martinez, those ties are never completely severed.
The Rays designated Martinez for assignment earlier this week. The 34-year-old ultimately elected free agency.
A similar scenario unfolded last year, too.
