Jose Ramirez hit a first-inning two-run homer and Carlos Carrasco and the bullpen made it hold up.
I first knew that Jim Thome was special when I saw him play in Columbus. In 1993, the Indians AAA team was in Charlotte and they only came to town for a couple series every year. Thome turned on a pitch and hit it out of the park to straight away right field. In those days at the old Clippers ballpark, there was a group picnic area behind the right field fence - that was the park he hit it out of - it went 475 feet if it went an inch.
