CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Mike Chernoff arrived at Jacobs Field on a Monday in the summer of 2003 with no idea of what his new gig would entail, no intention of sticking with the organization for the long haul and no friends or family members in the area.
And no lunch, either.
Chernoff didn't eat during his first day as an intern in the Indians' baseball operations department. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to stuff a sandwich into a brown bag to bring to his cubicle or if he would join his cohorts at a nearby restaurant.
