CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A year ago, Cody Anderson was preparing for another April in Akron, one with rainy days and long bus rides.
Three months later, Anderson had cracked the Indians' starting rotation. When the regular-season schedule reached its end, after he had posted a 7-3 record and 3.05 ERA in 15 starts, something dawned on Anderson: There were six starting pitchers for a five-man unit.
So, after the season ended, he made a brief retreat to his hometown of Quincy, California, where he served as grand marshal of the town's homecoming parade. Then, he ventured south to Goodyear, Arizona, where he spent the majority of his offseason.
