GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The cellular reception in the home clubhouse at Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is poor to almost nonexistent, and nobody knows this better than Indians catcher Guillermo Quiroz.
Last month, Quiroz, who was in the D.R. as a member of the Venezuelan team at the 2016 Caribbean Series, almost missed the call telling him he had a Minor League deal with the Indians.
"I'm glad I finally got the message," Quiroz, 34, said with a laugh.
Quiroz signed a few days after the conclusion of the Caribbean Series to provide organizational depth at the position behind starter Yan Gomes and backup Roberto Perez.
