CLEVELAND -- Lucas Duda launched a solo home run and Ian Kennedy quieted Cleveland's bats, leading the Royals to a 1-0 victory over the Indians on a frigid Saturday at Progressive Field.
The announced temperature at first pitch was 34 degrees -- one degree short of setting a Progressive Field record for coldest regular-season game -- and the conditions took a toll on both lineups. For the first six innings, neither offense broke through against Indians righty Trevor Bauer or Kennedy.
Bauer finally flinched in the seventh, when Duda ripped a first-pitch home run over the wall in right to put the Royals ahead.
