Dennis Martinez remembers the sound the Kingdome made in 1995. More than anything, it was that roar of 58,000 people echoing around the stadium.
“When you go there it was an amazing sound,” Martinez said. “We knew we could be in trouble but we needed to win.”
The Indians would have to clinch the American League Championship Series in Seattle and its famed Kingdome, one of the best home-field advantages of that time. With the Indians leading the series 3-2, Martinez was called on to pitch Game 6 against Mariners ace Randy Johnson.
Those were tall odds at the time, with the Mariners being in a good spot to force a decisive Game 7 at home.
