Collin Cowgill's role, the need for a lefty reliever and the idea of winning at all costs: Zack Meisel's musings

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians and new outfielder Collin Cowgill wasted little time in agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract for the 2016 season.

That pact materialized shortly after the Tribe acquired the 29-year-old from the Angels. The savior for the Indians' depleted outfield, he is not. A platoon option in the corner outfield spots and a defensive replacement, he likely is.

This surely is not the Indians' signature winter transaction. (If it is, the team must be hoping to defeat its opponents by a score of zero to minus-1 in each game next year.
