Yesterday, the Cleveland Indians inked Carlos Marmol to a minor league deal. Marmol last appeared in the big leagues last season with the Marlins, and he pitched 13.1 innings of baseball to the tune of a 8.10 ERA. The primary struggle for Marmol has always been his command, and he has averaged 6.16 walks per nine innings over his career. He has, however, shown at times to be a good reliever, posting back-to-back 30+ save seasons with sub 3.6 FIPs. This is a classic low-risk, high-reward style signing.
The Tribe’s bullpen has been league average this season, which is neither a good nor a bad thing.
