Cleveland taking a chance on speedy outfielder Harold Ramirez

Outfielder Harold Ramirez has been claimed off waivers by Cleveland, according to the team’s insider Twitter account. Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Feb. 17.

Ramirez, 26, is one of the fastest players in baseball, ranking in the 92nd percentile in sprint speed in 2019. He’s not built like your typical speedy outfielder — he’s not a thin, leggy monster like Bradley Zimmer or a finely tuned Byron Buxton. Instead, he’s 5’10”, 232 pounds, and just makes it work. He’s not necessarily a base-stealer, though, and his early metrics on defense aren’t great.
