Cleveland Indians trade Michael Martinez to Red Sox for cash

The Cleveland Indians have announced that utility infielder Michael Martinez has been traded to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations. The move comes just days after Martinez was designated for assignment by the club last Sunday following the crazy 19-inning game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Martinez is a 33-year-old journeyman who started his career with the Washington Nationals before moving to the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, and finally the Indians last season. Most of his time in the Tribe organization has been spent in Triple-A, where he was a well-above-average hitter.
