CLEVELAND, Ohio -- From Saturday, June 17, through Saturday, June 24, the Indians went 6-3. They were 3-0 at Minnesota (swept series, 4-0); 3-1 at Baltimore; and 0-2 in the first two of a three-game series against the Twins.
The Indians were as good, on balance, as the record indicated; the positive results were no fluke. They received contributions from everywhere. From a pool of numerous examples, I picked two, both of which occurred in a 5-1 victory over the Orioles on June 21.
1. Tribe 3B Jose Ramirez vs. RHP Kevin Gausman, first two plate appearances
Their first matchup, with none on and two outs in the first inning, went like this: 94-mph fastball called strike; 93 fastball outside; 96 fastball foul; 97 fastball inside foul; 87 splitter, swinging strikeout.
