CLEVELAND, Ohio – Manager Terry Francona has to feel whole again because Michael Martinez is back.
Francona has been lamenting the loss of Martinez since July 2 when the Indians designated him for assignment to add a fresh arm to the pitching staff following a 19-inning win over Toronto on July 1. After designating Martinez for assignment, they traded him to Boston for cash. Francona has been searching for a reliable jack-of-all-trades since.
Well, Thursday the Indians re-acquired Martinez when they claimed him off waivers. Boston designated him earlier in the week.
Martinez will join the team in New York for its three-game series against the Yankees.
