Cleveland Indians predictably decline Boone Logan’s 2018 option

The Cleveland Indians aren’t actively slashing the payroll, but Boone Logan was a name that came up as a potential cut heading into 2018.

The Indians were faced with a decision regarding Logan’s $7 million club option for 2018, and after an injury-shortened season, fans saw what was coming.

The Indians get that contract off the books, but do owe Logan a $1 million buyout. Still, that is $6 million extra to be used toward players like Carlos Santana and Jay Bruce.

Logan may have stuck around if he was on a smaller deal, but it is hard to rationalize paying him $7 million for a role that he struggled in during the 2017 season, especially after Tyler Olson‘s breakout season.
