Cleveland Indians option three, including Perci Garner, in first cut of spring training

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Promising right-hander Peric Garner was among the first players optioned to the minor leagues by the Indians this spring.

Garner, left-hander Tim Cooney and right-hander Dylan Baker were optioned Sunday morning. Garner and Cooney were sent to Class AAA Columbus, while Baker was sent to Class AA Akron.

Last year Garner, 28, rose quickly from Class AA Akron to the big leagues. The Dover, Ohio native made eight appearances with the Indians, striking out 12 and walking five in 9 1/3 innings.

Overall, Garner struck out 82 in 88 innings last year.
