BALTIMORE - Mike Clevinger missed the pickoff attempt of Manny Machado in the first inning Thursday night, but he did not miss the advice delivered during the umpires' review of the play.
Clevinger said he felt so good Thursday night that he didn't know where the ball was going. In other words, he was a mess. Second baseman Jason Kipnis had seen this before when he was on a rehab assignment earlier this year at Class AAA Columbus and Clevinger was pitching.
In that game, Clevinger came in from the bullpen after warming up and told Kipnis that he didn't have his good stuff.
