CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The names have not been finalized, but the complexion of the Indians' Opening Day roster is beginning to take shape.
Tyler Naquin received word on Friday morning that he would break camp with the big league club. Veteran reliever Joe Thatcher learned that he would not.
Both players have performed well this spring; Naquin entered Friday's action with a .447 average and eight extra-base hits. Thatcher posted a 1.35 ERA, with no walks and eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Both decisions relate to the Indians' plan to potentially carry five outfielders and only seven relievers on their Opening Day roster.
