MINNEAPOLIS – Baseball executives watch the All-Star Game differently than most fans.
No. 1, they want their players to get through the game healthy. No.2, they want their league to win because if they're fortunate enough to make it to the World Series, they'll have home field advantage.
Chris Antonetti, Indians president of baseball operations, is a believer in those rules. So when Corey Kluber started the second inning of Tuesday's All-Star Game in San Diego, there was no doubt what thought was running through his mind.
Then on Kluber's first pitch of the inning, San Francisco's Buster Posey sent a sharp grounder back to the mound that deflected off his glove to second baseman Jose Altuve, who threw to first for the out.
