CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Andrew Miller could have some company next season.
Miller, at times during the just completed season, was the only lefty on the Indians' pitching staff. On Friday, they claimed two lefties off waivers -- Edwin Escobar and Tim Cooney. They claimed Escobar from Arizona and Cooney from St. Louis. Catcher Chris Gimenez was outrighted to make room on the 40-man roster.
The Tribe's 40-man roster must be set tonight in preparation for the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 8.
Escobar, 24, started the year with Boston, but was claimed on waivers by Arizona in late April.
