CLEVELAND, Ohio – Manager Terry Francona has been credited with knowing his way around a bullpen in the four years he's managed the Indians. Apparently that was not always the case.
After the Phillies fired Francona in 2000 after a four-year run as manager, it was made clear that some people felt he didn't know one end of the pen from the other.
"When I interviewed for jobs after Philadelphia, people told me they didn't think I did that good a job with the bullpen," said Francona. "That was my first job. I thought it was more about trying to make something reach (the late innings) that didn't.
