Who is Ryan Merritt?
Merritt joined the Cleveland Indians in 2011 when he was a 16th round draft pick. The 24-year-old Texas native was an unheralded draft pick after spending one year at community college. He’s a left-handed starting pitcher who stands 6’0” and weighs about 170 pounds. He had a breakout 2014 season, in which he led the Carolina League in wins, WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched), and innings while also being top five in ERA.
