CLEVELAND, Ohio – Former Indians closer Chris Perez has been suspended for 50 games for his second violation of a drug of abuse according to MLB's Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Perez is currently a free agent after being released from Milwaukee's Class AAA club earlier this year. If Perez signs with another team, he must immediately serve the suspension.
The out-spoken Perez pitched for the Indians from 2009 through 2012 after being acquired in a deal with St. Louis. He became the Tribe's fulltime closer in 2010 and went to the All-Star game in 2011 and 2012.
