Here’s a breakdown of the anticipated Indians’ 2017 Opening Day 25-man roster.
Starting lineup
Catcher — Yan Gomes: For what feels like the first time in a long time, Gomes, 29, is completely healthy.
First base/DH — Carlos Santana and Edwin Encarnacion. Santana, 30, will act as the primary first baseman with free-agent signee Encarnacion, 34, the designated hitter on most days. Santana is slated to at least open the season in the leadoff spot. Encarnacion comes to Cleveland as one of the best pure hitters in baseball the past five seasons and owning the largest free-agent contract in franchise history.
