CLEVELAND, Ohio — While the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays is set to get underway Friday, longtime Blue Jays radio play-by-play announcer Jerry Howarth is making headlines.
The news is less about what Howarth is saying and more about what he is refusing to say.
Howarth, 70, Toronto's play-by-play man since 1981, said in an interview Tuesday with 590 The Fan that he has not uttered the name of Cleveland's mascot (nor that of Atlanta) on the air since 1992.
"For the rest of my career I will not say 'Indian' or 'Brave.
