DETROIT -- The Indians never felt that veteran reliever Scott Atchison would need much more than the required minimum stay on the disabled list before joining the bullpen. As it turns out, the right-hander will only be sidelined one additional day.
After a bout with a sprained left ankle, Atchison was eligible to be activated prior to Friday's game against the Tigers. Indians manager Terry Francona said the club wanted to keep its bullpen intact for the opener of the three-game set in Detroit, but will activate Atchison in time for Saturday's game at Comerica Park.
"We kind of thought about doing it tonight," Francona said on Friday.
