CLEVELAND, Ohio -- I called Rocky Colavito early Thursday morning.
It was 60 years ago -- September 24, 1955 -- that Colavito delivered his first big league hits. Actually, he was 4-of-4 (with two doubles) when the Tribe played Detroit in what was then called Briggs Stadium.
That was the second game of a doubleheader.
In the opener, Colavito's roommate -- Herb Score -- beat the Tigers, 8-2.
Score threw a complete game, striking out nine and walking two. That was his final start of his rookie season, a year where he was 16-10 with a 2.
