CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The 1995 American League Championship Series opened at the Kingdome, the late and unlamented concrete home of the Seattle Mariners.
The Indians entered having swept Boston in the best-of-five AL Division Series after winning 100 games in the strike-shortened 144-game regular season. The Mariners took a far more difficult path.
On Oct. 2, they had to beat the Angels in a tiebreaker to win the AL West after both teams finished 78-66. Seattle ace Randy Johnson, The Big Unit, threw a three-hitter in a 9-1 victory, striking out 12, to give the Mariners the division title.
