Here is a breakdown of the Indians’ 2016 Opening Day 25-man roster:
Starting lineup
C — Yan Gomes: Gomes, raved about by the Indians’ staff for how he calls games, is a textbook bounce-back candidate offensively after he lost six weeks with a knee injury last season following a takeout slide by Rajai Davis in the first home series and was never quite right.
1B — Mike Napoli: One of the Indians’ key free-agent acquisitions this offseason, Napoli struggled for much of last season but finished strong. He’s a better defensive first basemen than Carlos Santana and should be in the lineup most days and against all left-handers.
