In tonight's Indians news update, outfielder Michael Bourn isn't just looking to be the best baseball player on the Cleveland Indians roster. His aims are much higher than that.
Per Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal, Bourn "underwent hamstring surgery in the offseason and missed time at the start of the season with another hamstring issue. But the goal of the Indians’ center fielder is to vertical jump 40 inches before he’s done."
Why does he want to jump 40 inches?
“That was Michael Jordan’s vertical, so I want to try to get it,” Bourn stated emphatically on Wednesday prior to the Indians' contest with the Chicago White Sox.
Bourn indicates that the last time he had his vertical jump tested was three years ago, when he hit 38 inches. Bourn made sure to add that he was tested at a standstill, and not with one or two step running start like some potential draftees took at the NBA Combine.
The former high school baseball and basketball letterman still believes he's got the hops to do it - and it may just be a little bit longer before he proves it.
