In Indians rumors today, one noted Cleveland sports columnist believes that the much-maligned trade of Shin-Soo Choo to the Cincinnati Reds may have been the best thing to happen to Cleveland until the Cleveland Cavs stop playing in 2013-14.
Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer believes that Cleveland Indians general manager Chris Antonetti's trade of Choo a couple years back was "one of his best moves as general manager."
"He had a strong year, batting .285 (.885 OPS) with 21 homers and 54 RBI as a leadoff man. Represented by super agent Scott Boras, Choo signed a seven-year, $130 million deal with Texas. The Tribe knew there was no way they could afford him -- which is how the trade began, finding a way to get something for Choo."
The Cleveland Indians picked up an absolute haul in pitcher Trevor Bauer and outfielder Drew Stubbs-- enough for Pluto to grade the move as a cunning one for the Indians and their general manager.
