The Cleveland Indians are sitting at the bottom of the AL Central 30 games into the season, but that doesn't mean fans should just throw in the towel on the year. Here are three reasons why Indians fans should be optimistic about the rest of the season:
3) Yan Gomes will be back and better than ever
Gomes has only played in five games this season because of a knee injury, but he's expected to be back sooner rather than later, giving the Indians their defensive leader and young offensive star back. He hit .278 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI’s in his first season as Cleveland’s full-time starting catcher, and those numbers are only expected to increase - if he can stay healthy.
2) Kluber will turn his season around
The reigning AL Cy Young winning has not had a good season to this point as he's posted an awful 0-5 record with a 5.04 ERA, but that's bound to change. He's still racking up the strikeouts (6.6 per outing so far this season), but the four home runs and 11 walks are a concern. However, Kluber will get his control back soon and when he does, the wins will start rolling in for Cleveland.
1) There's still 130 games left
Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for Cleveland this season, yet they're still only eight games out of first place. The Indians have too much talent to keep playing this poorly, and there's still plenty of time for them to make up the ground they've lost.
