The Cleveland Cavaliers won’t be signing Timofey Mozgov to an extension this year — but not because there isn’t mutual interest.
Last season when the extension deadline rolled around in the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers failed to re-sign Tristan Thompson and are now in a sticky situation with him this summer. Tristan is still without a contract and is facing the real possibility of playing on a one-year qualifying offer that makes him an unrestricted free agent next summer.
That’s actually not a bad thing for the forward, as the salary cap is going to skyrocket next season and he’s not the only player who would benefit for waiting for a new deal.
