Savannah James is continuing her work to reach out to Akron high school girls and offer support.
She has announced a new mentoring initiative — Women of Our Future — this morning and it will launch first at her alma mater Akron’s Buchtel High School.
The program dubbed WOOF is geared toward young Akron women “through research-based and volunteer-driven interventions” to help them navigate the tough teen years.
With one-on-one mentoring and academic support, the program’s goal is to encourage participants to pursue their studies and a college education.
The first group in the program includes 16 students at Buchtel High School who are each paired with a mentor.
