The Cleveland Cavaliers and Tristan Thompson had seemed to hit an impasse last week, with reports coming out that the power forward would play this year with the Cavs then move on. Much of that seems to be his agent trying to leverage the Cavs, and don’t be fooled Thompson has leverage.
It seems the options right now are very simple:
- Play for the tender then hit free agency.
- The Cavs cave in and give him the contract he wants (reportedly 5 years around $90 million)
- Thompson and his agent cave in and sign the deal the Cavs put on the table (likely 5 years around $86 million)
According to Chris Sheridan, who broke the LeBron James return story first, the two sides are not as far apart as it seems:
Source tells me #Cavs and @RealTristan13 not as far apart on money as many would believe: http://t.
