The Cleveland Cavaliers and J.R. Smith seemed likely to be finished when Smith opted out of his $6.4 million dollar option. Most assumed the Cavs would either move on from Smith or J.R. would get a big contract offer from another team. Smith’s time with the Cavs, before the NBA Finals, seemed like it would raise his profile in free agency.
Instead, while money has been given out like candy on Halloween, Smith has not had any team, reported or rumored, interested in his services. His long standing history as a knucklehead, as well as his failures in big moments, seems to have caught up to him.
