Overnight arrest tally in Cleveland: 71 people

While most of the day’s protests of the Michael Brelo verdict were peaceful on Saturday, some turned violent overnight and in all 71 people were arrested, Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said at a Sunday news conference.

Williams, appearing with Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, said charges included aggravated rioting, felonious assault and failure to disperse.

Newsnet5.com noted that Jackson still encouraged people to come to the Cleveland Cavaliers-Atlanta Hawks NBA playoff game in Cleveland on Sunday night.

Williams said “police officers will allow protesting at the time of the game as long as they are not on private property and they remain peaceful,” according to the website.
