CLEVELAND, Ohio – A seemingly meaningless exhibition at the NBA All-Star Game three decades ago, the 3-Point Shootout, created Larry Bird's persona as the top gun of the trey.
The Boston Celtics' three-time NBA Most Valuable Player (plus twice in The Finals) never actually cared for the shot that much. "I never was a big fan of the 3-point shot when I played," Bird said in a telephone interview this week from Indianapolis, where he is the head of basketball operations with the Indiana Pacers.
But the long ball put the mystique in "Larry Legend."
Who's No.
