Head coaches around NBA surprised by David Blatt’s firing, but GM David Griffin believes team was regressing

CLEVELAND: Head coaches around the NBA responded to news of David Blatt’s firing Friday with shock and even outrage.

“I’m embarrassed for our league that something like this could happen,” said Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, who is president of the NBA Coaches Association. “It’s just bizarre … It just leaves you with a bit of an empty feeling because Blatt’s a great guy and he did a great job there.”

Blatt was fired by the Cavaliers despite an 83-40 record in parts of two seasons. The Cavs advanced to the NBA Finals last season with Blatt in charge, but general manager David Griffin said Friday the team was regressing despite the record.
