Faster pace means more chances at Love for Cavaliers

CLEVELAND: When he was asked about the Cavaliers’ slower pace earlier this season, coach David Blatt dismissed the need to play faster. After all, the Cavs went to the NBA Finals last season despite ranking 25th in pace – or number of possessions per 48 minutes.

They’ve been even slower this season, ranking 28th and ahead of only the Utah Jazz and Miami Heat. But a 34-point loss to the Golden State Warriors will force a team to question nearly everything, which is why Kyrie Irving came up with the idea to play a little faster.

Irving and Kevin Love seemed to hatch the plan at shootaround prior to Wednesday’s victory at the Brooklyn Nets.
