Cleveland Cavaliers: Jose Calderon is not a viable backup for Rose

Signing Jeff Green, re-signing Kyle Korver, shaking the offseason with their blockbuster Kyrie Irving trade — these were all good moves for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Signing Jose Calderon, on the other, was not. Now, Jose Calderon will be forced to be the Cavaliers second string point guard for possibly over half a season.

The 12-year veteran guard spent most of his prime seasons with the Toronto Raptors. In the 08-09 season, Calderon averaged 12.8 points per game and 8.9 assists per game. Those aren’t outstanding, but shooting 49.7% while being a 6-foot-3 point guard is.

Last season, Calderon’s season was split into two tenures– one with the Lakers and the others with the Hawks.
