Plain Dealer sports columnist Bill Livingston will retire soon. This week he is writing about changes in the sports world and journalism during his 47 years in the business and beginning next week he'll write about his five most memorable Cleveland-area sports figures during his 34 years at The Plain Dealer.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - "Did I ever tell you about the time Mary Schmitt tried to kill me?" said Doc Rivers, the former Boston Celtics coach one night at The Q, as the lady in question walked up to Rivers' pre-game meeting with media members.
He referred to former Plain Dealer colleague and Cleveland Cavaliers beat reporter Mary Schmitt Boyer.
